Thomas Changarathil

Thomas Changarathil is AODs VP, Innovation Strategy & Finance. He holds a Master of Design (MDes) in Strategic Foresight & Innovation from OCAD University in Toronto, ON and a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.

In pursuit of his MDes, he completed a major research project on the use of AI to enable greater resilience in food systems infrastructure and long-term food security in Canada. This project leveraged a 3 Horizons workshop to generate a collaborative vision for future Canadian food systems to enable resilience and food security, as well as strategic intervention points for AI to accelerate the transition towards this future by enabling more circularity in our current food systems.

As a research assistant at the Centre for Applied Disaster and Emergency Management (CADEM), he explored how emerging technologies – AI, IoT, blockchain, and XR – help transform the emergency management field and applied his findings to a technology strategy project for CADEM: The Future of Emergency Operations Centres.

His research interests surround the use of foresight methodologies and systems thinking approaches to explore how technology’s transformative effects can impact future economies, environments, and governance structures.
